Natural Orange Cleaning Liquid

I have been using this cleaning method for a while now and thought it was time to share the recipe. It is a cheap and affective cleaning spray, for all purposes.

Ginger, Pumpkin and Nut loaf - GF

While the pumpkins are cheap I have been pureeing them and freezing in bags. This recipe has no flour and so easy to make. If you don't love ginger like I do, add a pumpkin spice mix - nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves. Today I made 3 loaves and will freeze two of them.

Sweet Potato Base, Vegetable Quiche - GF

I love a quick and easy recipe that is filling and delicious. The base is a nice change from a pastry and a lot healthier. I love picking green vegetables from my organic green house in Winter. Washing them well and making sure there is no slugs in them. The eggs are from my chickens.

Coconut Chickpea Curry - GF

Who does not love a curry. This is our Friday night dinner. It was so quick to make, but then I did have the chickpeas cooked and ready to go. Don't be afraid to use chickpeas. If you have never cooked with them, this would be the best way to use them for your first time.

Beetroot and Brown Lentils Patties - GF

If you are feeling like a meat free meal, try these patties. We loved them and found they were fairly moist, this is because of the raw grated beetroot mixed in. They are very filling and were also enjoy for lunch the next day.

We love hash browns and this sure makes a healthy dish for kids. They would even, probably like to make them. Using Parmesan cheese would give these a lovely flavour, but I used what I had - tasty hard cheese.

I love a Butter Chicken Pie. Recently I bought one on a road trip and I was so disappointed with the lack of flavour and chicken. This is why I have decided to create my own recipe and have used my homemade pastry.

Savoury Pastry

Here are two recipes I like to use when I make pastry. Both are really nice and very easy to make. It would depend on what ingredients I have in the fridge as to which one I use. There is something about making your own pastry that gives you pleasure and  joy when making it.

This is by far one of our favourite pies for Winter. All the vegetables used are from my green house and the eggs are from our chickens. Maybe that is why we love it so much.

I love a hot loaf, sliced with a slab of butter on it. No whisking and fussing around with this recipe. I also know I have one in the freezer for our next trip on the road.

Chickpea Masala Recipe - gf

We love a good curry. I had a large bag of cooked chickpea's in my freezer and decided to turn them into a vegetarian curry. I also made flat breads with a sourdough starter  I have. This is a great Winter meal for a meatless night. Tastes great the next day as well.

Preserving Apple Pie Filling

I love the thought of knowing I have preserved fruit in my cupboard. When you have had a long day and you have friends coming around for dessert, it is so easy to open up a jar of Apple Pie filling and pour it into sweet or filo pastry. I have also made Apple Pie Muffins and used the core and skins to make Apple Cider Vinegar.

My favourite place - my vegetable garden.

My favourite place - my vegetable garden.

Hello, my name is  Shirley. Thank you for dropping bye to read my Food blog. I am here it Introduce you to ''Real Food now''  My journey of a healthy lifestyle begins in the beautiful setting of Queenstown, New Zealand. I love feeding nutritional whole foods to my family and friends and I love to grow organic vegetables. My goal is to bake processed sugar free, low fructose and mostly gluten free.

Also to buy only meat that is grass fed, organic and no antibiotics involved.

This is because my husband and I feel so much better when we eat this way, we have more energy and any bloating and extra weight does not happen anymore. I am a firm believer in good gut health because without a healthy gut, we get sick. I love fermented food because they put good bacteria in your gut.

I love using sourdough for my muffins, bread and crepes. Easier on the gut and I get to absorb all the nutrients.

I have a wonderful husband Glenn who has been a great provider and is amazing at building anything, including my vegetable garden boxes. We have been happily married for 32 years, with many more to come.

We have three adult daughters, two are studying away from home and one working in Queenstown. I cant forget our fluffy spoodle called Coco, who will be in many of my ''adventure''  photo's.

Our youngest left home in 2014 to study so I ''cut the apron strings ''(as they say in NZ ) and they are all free :). But I have to say, when they come back for holidays, it's nice to hear their laughing, joking and debating again.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog and trying out my recipes. By helping you become healthier I am also helping myself become healthier.

I hold cooking classes in my kitchen, for kids and adults. My most popular adult class is my Fermenting class and promoting gut health.

By the way - I am not a photographer, I just pick up my camera and click as I cook :)
