There are many sunscreen lotions that have ingredients that are NOT healthy for us, whatever you put on your skin, is absorbed into your body. This includes make - up.
Glenn and I are at the Sunshine Coast in Caloundra for my niece's wedding, so I have made this cream for our trip. It is thick and creamy. It is fantastic for your face. I also used it for the rest of my body. Very waterproof. Best not to place on too thickly, unless you want a white film over you, which is from the zinc. I was on the beach with just coconut oil for 15 minutes and then I put on this cream. The coconut oil I packed has instantly turned to a liquid but this cream is still firm (because of the bee's wax) and spreadable. I love it and I am quite proud to say ''I made it'' :)
Will make, great ''Christmas stocking'', presents, especially the little ones.
Natural Sunscreen
- approximately SPF 15
with or without Insect Repellent.
Option - 1 tsp Eucalyptus Essential oil - I used Absolute Essential - from Hardy's in Five Mile Queenstown. This is for repellent
1/2 tsp pure essential lemon oil - also from Hardy's - or any other essential oil for fragrance. You can also use vanilla extract.
1 cup almond oil - cold pressed refined - natural SPF 5
1/2 cup coconut oil - natural SPF 4
4 tbsp zinc oxide - use a mask or be careful not to inhale - natural SPF 2 - 20 - depending on how much you use.
Option -
4 tbsp Shea butter - natural SPF 4 - 5
For water proof - this needs hot water to remove -
1/2 cup bees-wax - this will make it water proof -
Method
1 - Place a 500 ml jar in a cooking pot and half full the pot with cold water. ( jar is now in a water bath)
2 - In the jar add all your ingredients, except your zinc oxide.
3 - Heat up slowly, the water and lightly simmer until all the ingredients have melted. I stir with a chop stick. ( if you use a spoon, you will have trouble removing the bees's wax)
4 - Remove jar and stir in the zinc oxide. Stir regularly until it all cools and thickens to stop splitting.
Place all the ingredients, except the zinc oxide into a jar.
Once it is all melted add your zinc oxide. Stir until set.
I place some of my sunscreen into smaller containers. Which I take in my hand bag. Great as a lip balm.
Enjoy the sun for longer, don't forget we need Vitamin D, from the sun.
