I am a great believer in Apple Cider Vinegar- ACV.
We all drink it, at home, even Glenn. It is an acid, but it turns to an alkaline once you have drunk it. Only ever buy one that has the''mother'' in it. It is the cloudy strings in the bottom of the bottle, this is the beneficial enzymes.
I have a few trees with very ''organic'' looking apples, you know the ones, they have black spots on them. So I have made ACV with them. Recipe further down the page. -
The peel and the core is only used, so the rest - the apple, I turn into apple sauce.
Recipe for drinking ACV -
1 tbsp ACV / 1 tbsp honey / warm water (as much as you like)
When you get use to it, try - 2 tbsp ACV / 1 tbsp honey / warm water (as much as you like)
So why am I so into this -
Benefits of ACV -
1 - Morning tonic - forget the coffee, and try this. It removes toxins in your body, and great for your immune system.
2 - Mouth wash - gargle with water and ACV. Great for healing gums, infections, soothes fungal infections (thrush) - Make sure you clean your teeth after, because of the vinegar.
3 - Toner - One part ACV and one part water, mix in a bottle. Apply with a cotton wool. Great for problem skin - acne, pimples and oily skin.
4 - Feet fungas - Add some ACV to water, and soak your feet in it.
5 - Great for type 2 diabetes - lowers blood sugars - but it is best to research this.
6 - Lowers blood pressure.
7 - Lowers cholesterol.
8 - Bee and wasp stings - use straight to soothe the pain and swelling.
9 - Wart killer - dap a cotton bud into the ACV, now dab on wart and cover with a plaster.Repeat a few times during the day. Will work within a week.
10 - Weed destroyer - Fill spray bottle with straight ACV. Spray weeds on a hot sunny day.
Recipe for making ACV
1 cup of organic apple cider vinegar with the mother in it. - this will be what gets your homemade ACV started.
3 litres water - boil and then cool it.
20 organic apples - we only use the peel and the core - I then use the apple for apple sauce - recipe below.
2 tbsp honey - melt in I cup of water
1 large glass jar, you need one with a wide opening. The one it the picture, is ok but wider is better.
Method
1 - Peel and core all apples, Place them in your jar.
2 - Add water, honey and your ACV starter
3 - Cover with a clean, breathable cloth. Stick a sticker with the date on it.
4 - Sit in a dark place, you need to keep checking it.
Process
It should start bubbling after 7 - 10 days, but if this does not happen, add 1/2 tsp bread yeast.
Remove any white mould if this occurs within the first month.
4 - 6 wks later the the bubbling should have stopped and the souring will begin.
8 wks it should taste and smell like vinegar.
Strain through two cheesecloths.
Pour into sterilised bottles. Now it is ready.
