Pea and Smoked Ham Soup -GF

In the past I have made pea and ham soup really thick and very green. Well, that is how it is meant to be. But this recipe is a little different, you can change it and add more spilt peas, for a thicker soup. I hope you love it like, I do.

Pea and Smoked Ham Soup Recipe

500 gr dried split pea's - soak over night in a bowl, that is really well covered in water. Next day  strain it.

1 onion chopped

4 carrots grated

1 naturally smoked ham hock

Method

1 - In a large pot put all the ingredients in and cover with water. The more water the thinner it is.

2 - Simmer for about 2 hours or until the meat comes easily of the bone. You may have to remove a build up of scum, on the surface.

3 - Remove the bone and meat when it is ready. Shred the meat off the bone.

4 - Before blending you can remove some of the liquid so it will not be so runny. Blend in a blender, the soup or use a stick blender, then add the meat.

5 - Taste and season with pepper, but watch the salt, the ham will be salty.
